   That isn't the same as perl's pack whereas ascii2binary is.  If you do   
   discover a small commandline app that is along this line then please let   
   me know.  However so far ascii2binary seems to fit the bill.  I already   
   have a small bash script that uses ascii2binary to create a type 2 ftn   
   header but I haven't stress tested it yet.  Got distracted with a   
   hardware issue on the new pure DC powered Atom that showed up on my   
   doorstep recently.
