   Speed is nice but if it isn't taking advantage of a 64 bit system then it   
   doesn't make much sense to me to spend the extra money.

   Yes.  It has 12VDC and 5VDC output but offhand I don't recall the amperage.    
   In the case of the pi 3 it would need to be in the 2 amp or better range to   
   make it fully operational (mostly usb devices) from what I've heard.  The   
   board itself supposedly only draws around 500 milliamps at 5V.

   Those would be cheaper but then again I've already made the investment ages   
   ago on the DC/DC power supply which in it's day cost over quadruple what the   
   pi costs today.  I just have to make sure the 5VDC amperage is high enough.
