You didn't mention the current       rating though. These days, I tend to go for switchmode converters, because I       often want to run off batteries and switchmode are vastly more efficient (can       exceed 90%). They also run cooler, which is handy on those hot summer days.        The only downside is the potential for RFI, but there's still a lot of good       ones out there.                     ...
