   Hey Alan!

AI> I think it's exactly what I was looking for..

Actually I was playing around and came up with what appears to me to be a 'one
   size fits all' solution;

read origZone origNet origNode origPoint <<< \
    $(echo ${origAddr%@*} | tr ':/.' ' ')

If the address contains a domain, such as @fidonet, then it is stripped out by
the 'echo ${origAddr%@*}' part and only echoes what precedes the '@'
character, 1:11/111.0 for example. Also if there is no point (eg 1:11/111)
then origPoint will not be set in the read and thus could be used in a later
conditional statement if and when it matters, such as netmail. The true
beauty of the above scheme is that origAddr and destAddr remain in their
original form, 3D, 4D or 5D. It simply doesn't matter as long as the ftn
   addressing format is honoured.

AI> I need to expand that into a bash script (or maybe 3) for the
AI> missing send, request and poll from the old husky huskmisc/
    AI> directory.

Probably a config file(s) that can be sourced as well. Also I have a ftn
function file I source as well that I find handy but your mileage may vary.

Ai> I'll likely need your help.

Take your time. Offhand I am pondering a companion file area where example
scripts could be supplied and perhaps freq'ed from if that is a desirable
thing. It might be good for testing these kind of ideas? Something to ponder
   that is for sure.

   Life is good,
   Maurice

... Don't cry for me I have vi.
