   * An ongoing debate between Nicholas Boel and Ben Ritchey rages on ...

    BR>> I need to execute two commands in tandem.

    BR>> then mc

    NB> Ah, the way you just described it, you're not even trying to do this
    NB> in your console. You're trying to do this /after/ Gnome loads up.. and
    NB> trying to load it in a xterm window.

   Correct, my bad {g}, but if I could bring up a root terminal running mc in
   another tty that would be just as good!

    NB> Do you actually have a binary on Ubuntu called "x-terminal-emulator"

   Well, it's Debian, not Ubuntu {chuckle} and no, it's a perl script that ends
   at calling your gnome-terminal with special args.

    NB> I'm also not sure what you're trying to say in the second one there.
    NB> You want to set an /icon's/ properties to start maximized? Or you want
    NB> to set a program (or the window the program is running in) to start
    NB> maximized?

   There's a difference? Your second explanation sounds more accurate {chuckle}
