   Ah, the way you just described it, you're not even trying to do this in your   
   console. You're trying to do this /after/ Gnome loads up.. and trying to load   
   it in a xterm window.   
      
   Do you actually have a binary on Ubuntu called "x-terminal-emulator" in   
   /usr/bin or /usr/sbin? I've always executed a terminal window in X with "xterm"   
   or, in gnome (using their default terminal emulator), "gnome-terminal" or   
   something similar.   
      
   I'm also not sure what you're trying to say in the second one there. You want   
   to set an /icon's/ properties to start maximized? Or you want to set a program   
   (or the window the program is running in) to start maximized?
