   I have always thought that systemd was over engineered, perhaps grossly over   
   engineered.   
      
   Systemd is more than just an init system as SysV is. I'm not sure if that's a   
   good thing.

   I am impressed too. I have always had issues of some sort with systemd and   
   wanted to see if I could get past them. I seem to be past them now.

   I use xfce here. Very light weight and it has enough go to satisfy my needs.

   The issue is not that SysV is a bad thing, it's not. The issue is that gnome   
   and kde are designed to work with systemd. The book editors have been building   
   LFS with eudev from systemd and elogind from systemd when a desktop is wanted   
   and it is getting harder and harder to do.   
      
   Slackware hasn't included gnome for years now so no issue there, but kde and   
   xfce are the main desktops in slackware. I wonder if Pat has or will come up   
   with a way to continue on with SysV.
