   Hey August!

   > in my case the limitation is the font set, and DOS terminal

Right. In my case I am using latarcyrheb-sun32 which is supplied by the
kbd-2.9.0 package (/usr/share/consolefonts). It looks great on a 4K monitor
on the bash shell as well as within vim. Back in the old days there was vga
fonts that could be used in a DOS terminal but that was only supporting 8-bit
character sets such as cp437. As for editors I thought the vim port of
windows had no issues with utf-8. Near as I can tell it is abandonware that
is holding Windows users back wrt utf-8.

   > Maybe the Linux version doesnt have that char restriction.

I don't know since I cannot find the source. I did find the latest linux port
but it is out of sync with the current ncurses version deployed here. So far
I am finding that the "open" part of openxp to be highly questionable given
   this obvious handicap.
