Of course in The Menagerie they said no ship kept records that detailed
so maybe it was a new addition. :)

Yeah, it's tough to fanwank why there isn't an NX on the wall of
Enterprises in TMP, or why the Time Cops didn't know about it in Trials
and Tribbleations, etc. etc. etc. or why pretty much everything that
happens in Enterprise contradicts real Trek. Enterprise really really
really needed a finale that undid it, like Voyager got, and while a Time
War wipe out would have been more welcome to me, the holonovel finale
does the job. It's weird though that if there wasn't a real guy, that
Riker was hoping to get inspiration by watching Archer's stirring speech
but ... after watching the ghastly events of the finale, Riker decided
not to bother watching the speech at all, even though that was the
entire point of the ep, so, who knows.

I'd have still vastly preferred that the exploits of Archer the
Executioner had led to the Mirror Universe, and the reason the Kirkverse
was so much better was that Archer had been run over by a lumbering beer
truck like Edith Keeler or something.

Whether he was real at any point or not or in any series or not, I think
we have to concede that Archer didn't exist in the Kirkverse.
