   But seriously, folks,   
   there was another proposed show in 1971 that could have been a cult    
   favorite--if TOS hadn't gotten there first. The pilot for ABC was    
   called "Earth II" (NOT to be confused with "Earth 2" by Roddenberry),    
   and was about a giant orbiting space habitat whose inhabitants thought    
   of as a separate nation.   
      
   I often wonder what would have happened, if NBC had turned thumbs down    
   on both of Roddenberry's TOS pilots, and ABC had greenlighted Earth II    
   instead.
