It is wierd for me because I liked both. Pulaski was a bit more like
Bones, ascerbic at times but when you got to know her she was cool,
and she embodied professionalism. I guess the wierd thing was
replacing a character a season in, but Babylon 5 did in and did OK,
and with them one character they "replaced" became a recurring guest.

Since Wesley became such a big part of the show maybe they wanted Dr.
Crusher around more, so maybe that could have been another reason.
Though the idea of Picard as the surrogate father he'd lost would have
been reinforced if he were on board as an acting Ensign and Beverly
were assigned elsewhere and occasionally dropped by, like she was the
doctor on their local starbase etc.

Or for a reason we don't know everything about they regretted letting
her go, a circumstance that doesn't get talked about publically, so we
   may never know.

Either way good on Diana Muldaur for going to L.A. Law soon after and
having a hellacious run there as a heavy.

I thought Crusher grew as a character and McFadden found a groove.
Then again Muldaur probably would have gotten in a deep groove too,
and she had ties to the original series so it wasn't her first Trek
   bike ride either.

Much like the B-5 "replacement" arguments, the vs. thing is tough
because I don't have a beef on either.
