   It's silly to think Cochrane isn't a scientist on some level.   
   Discovering the space warp isn't something a person would do by   
   accident. Regardless of the "how", he 'discovered' the space warp and   
   he knew what it was and recognized it's importance, something a non-   
   scientist wouldn't know. So no, Final Contact didn't get it wrong.
