|    Happy 30th Anniversary ST:TMP! - your m    |

From Newsgroup: alt.tv.star-trek.tos       From Address: rikp@aol.com       Subject: Happy 30th Anniversary ST:TMP! - your memories?                     Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released December 7, 1979, making       today the 30th anniversary of its release, and the end of the longest       drought in Star Trek history.              It might be fun to share memories, I'll go first. I was a young teen       and had been watching Star Trek for about three years, read "The       Making of Star Trek," "The World of Star Trek," "The Making of       Tribbles," and the "Starfleet Technical Manual" many times over,       collected the action figures and the bridge set, and built all of the       AMT models (including Spock fighting the 3-headed snake) and       frequently wore a "Keep on Trekkin'" button. When ST:TMP was       announced I was, naturally, excited and all I'd seen up until its       release were some photographs of the new Enterprise and costumes, and       a clip on Good Morning America of Spock's first appearance on the       bridge.              My family were all Trek watchers so we went to the first show on       Saturday (the 8th) and I rather enjoyed it. I was a little bothered       by the different sets and costumes, how the cast looked different/       older, and still think the original Enterprise is the best Enterprise,       but I loved the big special effects sequences and was very entertained       throughout (probably because you're never more than a few minutes away       from a big special effects sequence!) and the music is still       fantastic.              From posts elsewhere it's obvious I still have a soft spot for it, and       if this guy's numbers are correct then it's still the most successful       TOS or TNG Trek film without inflation adjustment, the most successful       Trek film ever adjusted for inflation (beating 2009's worldwid $384M),       and also the most successful Trek film based on popularity per year of       release (Trek 2009 is currently 5th for 2009):       http://www.thecaptainkirkpage.com/trekcom.html              Happy 30th ST:TMP! You may not have given us exactly what we wanted       but you proved that "Star Trek Lives."       Rik       --- Synchronet 3.15a-Linux NewsLink 1.92-mlp        * Origin: http://groups.google.com (1:2320/105.97)       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
