   Radiation is a factor. Most genetic errors are from metabolic effects. The    
   danger of high level radiation is that it damages the body's ability to    
   repair the damage, more so than it adds significantly to the metabolic    
   errors. Low level radiation seems to stimulate the body's ability to deal    
   with metabolic errors & thus adds up to less problems.
