With ten nominees for BP, it might slip in as the weak 8, 9 or 10th
ranked pick. But as someone once said (John Harkness?), if a film is
nominated for an Oscar, then by definition it is Oscar quality. Now
with ten contenders, instead of having three or four nominees that
can't possibly win, they'll have seven or eight. There ain't no way
Star Trek is going to win a Best Picture Oscar. Never. Ever. If
you're going to nominate a summer of '09 blockbuster for BP, The
Hangover is a better choice. Star Trek road a wave of goodwill mainly
because it didn't suck. I can't see it getting too far on Ocar night
on its double virtues of not sucking and revitalizing a dying
franchise. Casino Royale didn't get nominated.
