I included my quote to demonstrate that my comment wasn't about the
quality of BH's effects, but that Disney was able to produce all of
the effects for their product themselves whereas fellow Hollywood
major studio 20th-Century Fox was not able to do this (and Paramount
had *major* headaches with ST:TMP's effects which are well-
   documented).
I do, however, think that the Cygnus is a beautiful ship and the shot
of it coming to "life" (and John Barry's musical cue for same) are
quite effective. I saw it when I was 15 so Maximilian will always be
the wicked-coolest malevolent robot ever. You know, they're planning
   a remake. In 3D.
