From Newsgroup: alt.tv.star-trek.tos       From Address: rikp@aol.com       Subject: Re: The Case For Star Trek Winning Best Picture (was Re: Star Trek       Makes 2009 National Board of Review Top 10 Films List)                     > >> (The only studio that seemed to still have the capability to do an       > >> entire effects-laden production in-house was Disney with "The Black       > >> Hole." aPerhaps their animated films required an active technical       > >> department so they never shut it down.)       >       > It does seem a bit odd that anyone would use The Black Hole as an example of       > good special effects. a       I included my quote to demonstrate that my comment wasn't about the       quality of BH's effects, but that Disney was able to produce all of       the effects for their product themselves whereas fellow Hollywood       major studio 20th-Century Fox was not able to do this (and Paramount       had *major* headaches with ST:TMP's effects which are well-       documented).       I do, however, think that the Cygnus is a beautiful ship and the shot       of it coming to "life" (and John Barry's musical cue for same) are       quite effective. I saw it when I was 15 so Maximilian will always be       the wicked-coolest malevolent robot ever. You know, they're planning       a remake. In 3D.       Rik       --- Synchronet 3.15a-Linux NewsLink 1.92-mlp        * Origin: http://groups.google.com (1:2320/105.97)       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
