   I didn't take it that way.   
      
   I thought Sarek was mad at his son because Spock chose Starfleet over    
   the Vulcan Science Academy.  Not every young Vulcan is as talented as    
   Spock; probably there are plenty who could never be accepted to the VSA    
   either.  Their parents might prefer their children to serve on Fed    
   starships rather than work at the Vulcan equivalent of Burger King    
   (Plomeek Soup King?).
