'Star Trek' Favorite William Campbell Dies at 84
10:30 PM 4/29/2011 by Mike Barnes

William Campbell, who guest-starred in two memorable episodes of the
original Star Trek TV series, died Thursday at the Motion Picture &
Television Country Home and Hospital in Woodland Hills, according to
   StarTrek.com. He was 84.

Campbell played the all-powerful Trelane in the episode "The Squire of
Gothos" and Koloth, a Klingon, in "The Trouble With Tribbles," both of
which aired in 1967. He reprised the role of Trelane for a Star Trek:
Judgment Rites video game in 1993, returned for a 1994 episode of Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine and was a regular at Star Trek conventions and
   cruises.

A native of Newark, N.J., who bore a resemblance to Liberace, Campbell
also sang with Elvis Presley in Love Me Tender (1956) and starred in the
violent Dementia 13 (1963), produced by Roger Corman and directed by
   Francis Ford Coppola.

Other film credits include Operation Pacific (1951), Battle Circus
(1953), The High and the Mighty (1954), Hush . Hush, Sweet Charlotte
(1964) and Pretty Maids All in a Row (1971), written by Star Trek
   creator Gene Roddenberry.

Campbell's almost 50-year career as an actor also included a regular
role on 1958-59 truck-driver series Cannonball and episodes of The
Loretta Young Show, O'Hara, U.S. Treasury (with Trek cast member George
Takei), Adam-12, The Streets of San Francisco and Kung Fu: The Legend
   Continues.

   Survivors include his wife, Tereza.
