   That's right, the original series outline lists no name for Number   
   One.  In fact, now that you mention it, not all of the characters may   
   have actually been named onscreen.  Pike, Spock and Number One are all   
   called that.  Philip "Bones" Boyce is called Boyce and Phil (but never   
   Bones).  I don't remember if J.M. Colt was ever addressed by name at   
   all.  The same with Tyler.  We know that those are their names from   
   books and imdb, but I don't think we know it from any onscreen   
   mention.  Unless it's the credits.  The credits for The Cage only list   
   actor names, but the credits for The Menagerie give character names as   
   well.
