   Yes, I know that Number One refers to the executive officer.   
   I believe that, in Roddenberry's original conception, the character   
   was to be known only as "Number One", unlike in TNG in which the   
   Captain calls his first officer Number One, but the character does   
   have a name (Will Riker). That was my point. Although the joke was   
   pretty good too, right?
