   Those bodily functions are aluded to in an early "Enterprise" episode,   
   when the bridge crew are responding to questions from children back on   
   Earth. Clearly, at some point between "Enterprise" and the Original   
   Series, medical science had progressed to the point where bathrooms   
   are no longer needed :)
