   This CO probably passed the point where he should have stopped participating   
   in    
   this sort of horseplay at least 10 years earlier in his career. When you are   
   in    
   a command role you cannot be "one of the guys," and behavior that would be    
   tolerated or given a slap on the wrist if done by the rank and file becomes   
   less    
   and less acceptable as you move up the chain of command. The "old school"    
   veterans who made up the creative team on TOS and who developed  characters   
   like    
   James T. Kirk knew this 40 years ago.
