   I still have, somewhere, my "Aliens Registration Certificate".   
      
   I am not a creature from outer space, and I've never been to outer space.   
      
   When I went to study in Britain in 1966 I was an alien and registered as such   
   under the Aliens Act of 1953.    
      
   My possession of the certificate showed that I was a legal, as opposed to an   
   illegal alien, but I was an alien none the less, noun, not adjective.   
      
   "Alien" as a noun does NOT mean only a creature from outer space.    
      
   I am not, and never have been, a creature from outer space, but I have been an   
   alien.
