I think there are better alternatives to let us know the shuttlecraft
was rising than the Yeoman acting like she's on the Mickey Mouse
Club. How about Spock or Scotty calmly saying "its working, we are
leaving the planet surface". Or McCoy could have said "We're moving,
you pointy eared, green blooded, heartless SOB. Or Boma could have
remarked, "Mr Spock, we're taking off, but I still wish it was you who
   got shish-kabobed instead of Latmier.
It isn't just the yeoman here who is made to look foolish. Uhura is
made to look foolish twice in "Arena". Granted, Kirk disappearing off
the bridge is shocking, but Uhura screams like some guy from The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre is coming at her. Then, upon first seeing the Gorn
on the screen, Uhura holds her hand in front of her face like some
child watching a horror movie and halfway covering their eyes to peak
   at the screen.
