   Another thing to remember about TAS is that, although the actual   
   episodes may sometimes have had more plot than time to tell it, they   
   were novelized by Alan Dean Foster in the Star Trek Log Series.   
   Foster did only 3 (sometimes 1) episodes per novel (as opposed to a   
   dozen or so in the Blish books), so he was able to flesh them out,   
   rather than pare them down.
