I guess he didn't like the mustache Kyle had mysteriously grown since
the series ended, or the fact that he suddenly sounded so much like
   Doohan.

The title is still "Star Trek", with nothing added on. They even went
back to the yellow lettering of Seasons 1 and 2. It's so much a copy
of the TOS credits that they even elbow everyone except Shatner, Nimoy
   and Kelly out of credit.

This is far and away the most science-fictiony of the TAS episodes,
and was written by Samuel Anthony Peeples, who wrote Where No Man Has
   Gone Before.
The Automatic Bridge Defense system is one of the biggest new
gadgets. You never hear about it again, but there is something on the
bridge that looks very much like it in Star Trek: The Motion
Picture. At the time, we assumed that this was a homage to TAS.

They don't really get used all that often. You see them again in
Slaver Weapon, where they aren't used as a plot device (in fact, Uhura
gets phaser stunned while wearing one). You see them a couple of
times more, but not in a big way.
