   Yes, and they didn't seem to be able to do that to anyone else, so   
   it's a weak point in an otherwise decent part of an otherwise awful   
   episode (did you follow that?).  They should have just let him go   
   ahead and make the call, for all the good it would have done.  I take   
   it that it would have been a disaster if the Friendly Lawyer had made   
   it to Marcos XII, even if they did round up the kids later, so they   
   could have always used the "no other ships in range" schtick.
