   This was probably done so that the Enterprise was at least partly aware of    
   the problem, otherwise the Klingons would know about the sabotage, the    
   viewers would know about it and finally the people of Elysia know about it    
   before Kirk and Spock even have a clue.   
      
   It also gives Spock some Vulcan stuff to do and presents a mini-mystery of    
   why Spock is acting that way.
