the results show that it was a wrong-headed approach. aThe episodes that stand
up the best are consistently the ones with fairly simple plots (Yesteryear,
One of Our Planets Is Missing, The Survivor), stories that don't require too
much exposition to tell the tale and tell it well. aThe ones with more
complicated plots, which might have worked well at an hour, equally
consistently come across as rushed and underdeveloped.

Some of them may have literally been unproduced TOS scripts that were
adapted for TAS. Apparently More Tribbles More Troubles fit that
bill, but others may have also. I hadn't thought about that before.
I haven't bothered to check how many of the TAS writers had written 30
minute dramas, and/or animated shows before TAS. A lot of the
writers, like Kandel, Gerrold, Armen, and others, were veterans of the
original series. So was Fontana, but she turned out one of TAS's
   best episodes.
