From Newsgroup: alt.tv.star-trek.tos       From Address: graemecree@aol.com       Subject: Re: The Terratin Incident (TAS): my review              Didn't think it was that bad, although the fact that a normal sized       Kirk can contact them at the end is a pretty huge plot hole.              Another big one is that the Terratins shrank the crew to get their       attenion without knowing that they had the Magic Transporter to       restore themselves. Incapacitating the crew of the rescue ship is no       way to get rescued. That sounds like something Gilligan would do.              As far as the transporter, it looks like nobody thought of it       earlier. Kirk seems surprised that he's normal sized when he beams       down. The Magic Transporter is a huge can of worms that should never       have been opened, as it calls into question why every redshirt Kirk       ever lost wasn't restored the same way. And yet, three entire plots       in TAS are resolved with it.              But I didn't think it was that padded. It's Trek's version of The       Incredible Shrinking Man, and as such the story is ABOUT shrinking,       and what it's like, not about whatever plot device made it happen.       The Trek-style examples that they give (trying to activate the       electric eye on the doors, using an ear laser to heal larger bones, et       cetera) are reasonable enough. And give them credit for bothering to       explain why everyone's clothes were shrinking (who knew that Trek       uniforms were made of algae-based xenolon?). I'd give it maybe 5/10.              --- Synchronet 3.15a-Linux NewsLink 1.92-mlp        * Origin: http://groups.google.com (1:2320/105.97)       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
