   It came out of the first electronic typesetters, which couldn't handle a    
   double space after a period if it hit a line break, and you ended up    
   with sentences that started with a space.  I ran one of the damn things.     
   They got put out of business by Microsoft Word and desktop publishing,    
   but the damage appears to be done.
