   As a person who has worked in the electronics/telecom/I.T. industry   
   for a number of years, I can tell you that broadcast radio stations   
   have receivers for a number of purposes.  Some are used to monitor the   
   station's programming.  Some are used to listen to police and fire   
   frequencies for news stories.  Some are used to listen to other   
   stations.  Some are used for monitoring the Emergency Broadcast   
   System.  And they have receivers for other things, too.     
      
   There is nothing odd about it.
