   By 1973, the women's liberation movement had a real effect on Hollywood.   
      
   Most TV series in the 1960s depicted women as subservient, flighty, even    
   emotional figures.  If anything, TOS was better than average in that    
   regard.  Though Mission: Impossible did even better with the Cinnamon    
   Carter character.   
      
   By the 1970s, Uhura could no longer be depicted as just the "emotional
