   Hmmm, yeah... But that's not a tactical mistake to me; just a dumb   
   one that anybody who was over-worked could have made. Kirk saw the   
   specs-- and according to the book version, he told the designers that   
   that was a bad idea-- and after that, forgot about it. He assumed   
   they had corrected the problem and his mistake was in not seeing if   
   they actually did or not. He thought the desk job had dulled his   
   edge,and maybe he was right. But even a dulled Kirk is a better   
   starship captain than any ten others; he got his ship and all but two   
   of his crew back from a mission that Decker could never handle.
