wpusa.dynip.com       -0500       (74.101.171.114)       2016 16:32:56 -0500       =0.000,reip=0.000,cl=1,cld=1,fgs=0       images       ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++               From: jvwDESPAM@DESPAMdfsee.com              FYI, DFSee version 14 BETA vailable for evaluation               With the beta released today, it is possible to access compressed imagefiles       (IMZ)       as normal partitions or disks, and amlthough read-only, it still allows you to       COPY any       individual files or whole directories from such images, using the BROWSE       functionality.               It will allow you to browse through most filesystems, and view/edit/copy       individual files.       You can also MARK several files and copy/recover all of them to a safe place.                      For a quick test, just start DFSee and use the menu:                File ->        Browse IMZ compressed image                      Or, for example from an OS/2 commanline, to copy some files from a backup       image:                dfsos2 imz mybackup.imz                              Feel free to try out these new features, with the beta that can be downloaded       from:                http://www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140.zip              For OS/2, you can also use the WARPIN installer:                http://www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140_warpin.exe              And for Windows:                http://www.dfsee.com/download/dfsee140.msi              You can use those without a key, in evaluation mode.                      However, if you planned to upgrade your DFSee registration anyway, there is NO       need       to wait for the official 14.x release, all registration keys issued after the       1st of october 2016 are valid for version 14!                              At the moment the BROWSE function quite useful for accessing files that may be       hard to get to otherwise, like:                - Copying files from a partition or disk backup in compressed imagefiles (IMZ)        - Copying photo files from an ExFAT formatted SD-card, using OS/2        - Copy one or more files from another filesystem like EXT4 from OS/2 or       Windows        - Copy HPFS files from Linux or Windows        - Edit your Windows boot.ini file from OS/2 or a bootable DOS        - and many more ...               Browse is supported for the following filesystems: HPFS, JFS, NTFS, FAT(32),       ExFAT, EXT2/3/4                      Another enhancement under consideration is direct access the VirtualBox .VDI       disk files,       so you could extract files from that without needing VirtualBox at all ...                      Please have a go at the current functionality in the BETA, and let me know       what you think.       Just start DFSee as usual, then start browsing using the key, or use the       various menu       items that give access to BROWSE.               Use the key whenever you are unsure in any way, there is lots of context       aware HELP available explaining shortcut keys, menu items and dialogs. Also,       don't forget the single       line with help/description at the bottom of the screen!                      Feedback highly appreciated!                      Regards, JvW               =========================================================================       DFSee Home: http://www.dfsee.com; Jan van Wijk; Author of DFSee -       mailto://info@dfsee.com       --               For a choice in the future of personal computing, Join VOICE -       http://www.os2voice.org               [Moderator's note: All posts are sent without guarantee to the        accuracy of the content.
