   slrn worked as did thunderbird. so there must be something between PAN and   
   synchronet nntp that is not compatible. I have two working options, so   
   appreciate the feedback.   
      
   I'll see if I can determine issue, but at this point i know it seems to be   
   unique to PAN. I did remove other news servers to be sure it wasn't getting   
   confused between the other servers. But still got error in event log and got   
   no such file error on the synchronet side.
