On 01/06/16, Daryl Stout said the following...                DS> I am still waiting on the blood work for checking if I am type 2        DS> diabetic, and have gout...and then to see if my PCP feels that gastric        DS> bypass surgery would be an option for me. I wonder if anyone in this        DS> echo has had, or knows someone who has undergone it, and what their        DS> experiences were. So, I'm not going to rush into this, but would        DS> appreciate any feedback.              Daryl,              Granted I am type 1 I have been through similar things. I had a "scrotal"       cyst that turned out to be a tumor ont the epididymus (the tubes between the       prostate and the testes) They removed it and I've been well afterward.              What they found drove my weight probem was after the surgery in my "scrotal"       area was complete they found that the cancer possibly spread to the testicle       on the left side and they took it too. Being that I already have other       problems my body slowed down making testosterone.              I've been on testosterone shots now for the past 11 years and it's made all       the difference in my life... I've had more energy. I've been able to lose       weight... and it has in some ways helped my diabetic control              I also am a big advocate of the weight watcher's program. It's not so weigh       in and scale orenited with the new program. I've had to lose do to a hip       injury a lot of weight to have my hip surgery. When my hip joint was damaged       I let my weight get up to 327 pounds. I started Weight Watchers in November       just before Turkey day and I'm down now to 251 and still dropping. I am       unable to do a lot of exercise, but the support and rethinking my food (and       I've been eating a lot more of it since too) has been all the difference in       the world.              The gastric bypass is a drastic last-ditch surgery. I go to the Joslyn       center for diabetes and my diabetic doctor said that SHE only reccomends it       to patients who are lazy and lack any form of discipline.              While working at the jail we had a nurse that was morbidly obese she got the       gastric bypass surgery and lost an impressive amount of weight, over 220       pounds. We even did a collection and fund raisers to get her an additional       surgery not covered by the health insurance to remove excess folds of skin.        They literally removed nearly 30 pounds of skin. Two years after that she       started losing teeth and became malnourished even though she ate healthy and       took vitamins... we lost her and it about killed us.              We found out that this is not an uncommon thing with the gastric bypass       patients that they do get vitamin deprived and some actually starve no matter       what they take or eat. I couldn't do it... I know of two people who have       died from this surgery.              I also know one young lady who choked to death because of her lat-band       forcing food into her lungs. I would exhaust every "natural" way of losing       weight first.              I would also have your tesosterone levels checked... you might be low on that       and it's something your body naturally makes. Boosting it up can have       amazing results.              Allen               Allen Prunty ÄÄ Ý Telnet to livewirebbs.com ÄÄ        ÄÄ Derby City Livewire Ý ÄÄ where friends meet online               --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A20 (OSX)        * Origin: LiveWireBBS.com * Louisville, Kentucky (1:2320/100)    |
