      MSGID: 1:396/45.0 6700702a       MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06                Title: Evelyn's Apple Brown Betty        Categories: Desserts, Fruits, Herbs, Citrus, Dairy        Yield: 8 servings               MMMMM----------------------MIX & SET ASIDE---------------------------        1 c Sugar        1/4 ts Nutmeg        1/4 ts Cinnamon        1/4 ts Salt              MMMMM--------------------------PREPARE-------------------------------        4 c Apples; pared, cored,        - sliced        2 c Dry bread crumbs              MMMMM--------------------------TOPPING-------------------------------        1/4 c Water        Juice of one lemon        2 tb Butter; for dotting on top              MMMMM---------------------HOT VANILLA SAUCE--------------------------        2 c Milk        1 ts Flour; to thicken        1 tb Sugar        1 tb Vanilla extract                Layer 1/3 of the bread crumbs in the bottom of a well        greased baking dish.                Next, layer half of the apples and half of the sugar        mixture.                Layer 1/3 more of the crumbs.                Layer the rest of the apples and sugar mixture.                Final layer of crumbs.                Mix together the 1/4 C water and the juice of one lemon        and pour it over the entire pan...                Dot with butter over the whole pan.                Bake at 350°F/175°C for 45 minutes.                Serve with hot vanilla sauce.                HOT VANILLA SAUCE: Add flour to cold milk and stir.        Place all ingredients in sauce pan and heat to make        sauce. (You may add more or less sugar and vanilla, to        taste.
