   For water and wastewater treatment plants of anything beyond a small   
   scale, fiber is becoming very common, as it has a lot of advantages in   
   terms of noise immunity.  In fact, the last three sewer plants I did the   
   I&C for, all used fiber rings of between 100megabit and 1 gigabit in   
   speed.  The equipment is pretty cheap, fiber's cheap these days, and the   
   advantages outweigh the slightly higher initial cost.   
      
   I have a few customers that didn't go fiber and have regretted it...
