But since that shooter was a student and thus authorized to be there,       I'm not sure how anything could've been done different once he started       shooting.              I think I mentioned that a kid had a BB gun in his car trunk on a college       campus. When he opened his trunk, someone saw the BB gun and called police.        The campus went on lockdown. The kid hid too, having no idea they were       looking for him. After four        hours of lockdown they finally figured things out. They said the kid would be       charged with numerous offenses, but I don't think a BB gun is illegal in any       way, plus it's not like he brandished it; some paranoid nut saw it.              Sometimes I serously wonder if our biggest threat will be from the busybodies       and control-freaks. I know some of those people from community work and they       are a severe distraction. Responding with a SWAT team to everything they       think they see is        awfully expensive.              (We had a SWAT team come out to deal with a resident, though it turned out he       had violated no law and in the end, was not arrested.)              Anyone see the situation differently?              --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03        * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1)    |
