   Um, maybe it was and maybe it wasn't. Maybe the volume of traffic is   
   200% greater than the original planners ever envisioned. That's   
   certainly the case around here (Los Angeles). Of course, they could have   
   built useful alternative transportation options, which they are now   
   doing....50 years too late.   
      
      
   Also, I daresay that fatalities were considered more of a "cost of   
   business" back in the 1950s than today. They used to just sweep up the   
   mess and say "too bad". Now, they actually report fatalities on the news!
