A quick look at the Port Authority web site reveals that the maximum
width for vehicles on all of their crossings is 102" except for the
Holland Tunnel where it's 96". They note that any vehicle wider than
96" operated in NYC requires a NYC permit. Oversize vehicles have to
apply in advance to the PA to be convoyed through, typically in the
   middle of the night.

Despite these restrictions, the PA says that every day about 1,800
buses use the morning dedicated bus lane from the Turnpike to the
tunnel so the bus operators apparently are dealing with them.
