TriMet here in Portland still does it that way for bus and train. When
you are looking at the paper equivalent of this:
   http://www.trimet.org/schedules/w/t1100_1.htm
   or this:
   http://www.trimet.org/schedules/w/t1004_1.htm
I find that it helps me keep track of what line I was looking at.

This is especially the case when you see the printed timetable, and
realize that they are not marked AM or PM on the printed timetable, but
are only normal print or boldface print:
   http://www.trimet.org/schedules/w/t1004_1.pdf

The most recent Amtrak system timetable I have also does the boldface
for PM thing, but they also have A and P by the time number as well.
