I attended the Streamliners at Spencer show. You could not get within 300
feet of N&W 611. I liked viewing Southern 6900, which hauled the Southern
Crescent, a train I rode on many times from Monroe to DC and NYC. I also
photographed some of the engines when they were doing crew changes in
Monroe, but the prints really did not come out well, since nightime
photographs even with 3,000 speed Polaroid film was marginal due to the
small lens in the cameras.. But I sure do remember those E8s.

I talked with the crew of Union Pacific 949. By 4 PM they were getting the
engine ready to be hauled out with a stop in Asheville. N&S does not permit
riders in the engine, so one of those in charge trailed it and stayed with
   it in the yards.

The last time I was at Spencer the passenger cars were being hauled the
Shay, now sidelined probably forever, in the roundhouse. There was a
complete consist of the Piedmont open for inspection, as well as the Amtrak
adverting train which showed a fake dining car experience using real ceramic
plates, cups and saucers. You could only with for that......

The E3 ACL 501 had 6 million miles credited to it, farther than any other E
   engine has gone.
