   You may have heard of the bill now in Congress that would explicitly exempt   
   airlines from truth-in-advertising when it comes to quoting fares.  So,   
   they'll advertise a cheap fare, and only at purchase time will the passenger   
   see that the actual fare is    
   substantially higher.  For some reason, the airlines claim that is necessary   
   for them to do business.

   I suppose we shouldn't be too hard on airlines for doing that, as other   
   utilities likewise quote cheap rates but then tack on all sorts of fees and   
   taxes.   
      
   At this rate of anti-consumerism, soon we'll see gasoline pumps advertising   
   the fuel price only, and then adding on the taxes afterward.
