This will remove all possible "network effets", which       > is a shame, given that this link to Sudan is the last missing part in       > the mythic "Cape to Cairo" rail line...                     Cape to Cairo line would already have a break in gauge between Cape       Gauge and Meter Gauge. Even in Tanzania, TAZARA is Cape Gauge while       there is over a thousand km of Meter Gauge too. TAZARA is Cape Gauge       because Zambia and Zimbabwe are Cape Gauge just like South Africa.              So the whole gauge thing is a mess as it is. Throwing in Standard Gauge       doesn't make it any worse really since Egypt at the other end of Cape to       Cairo is already Standard Gauge. Personally I think they should just       convert the main corridors to Standard Gauge as is being done in many       other parts of the world.              --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03        * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1)    |
