   The second person in the cab would be a "fireman" which railroads eliminated   
   many years ago when steam ended.  Steam engines stil have firemen they stoke   
   the fire or shovel coal.   
      
   The engineer "drives" the train.  The conductor who is the head person in   
   charge of the train is in the pasenger cars.  On freight trains the conductor   
   would be in the engine.
