   And the reason these taxes take a long time to arrive is because the   
   Seattle area has to go hat in hand begging to the state legislature   
   every time they want to increase their own taxes.   
      
   Since the state legislature is run by a bunch of anti-tax Republicans,   
   they have generally made it very difficult for voters to get that   
   required state legislative approval.   
      
   If you think that liberals represent a "nanny state", then what can be   
   said about the Republicans who say "We know what's best for you, and for   
   your own good we won't let you tax yourselves to pay for infrastructure   
   you need."   
      
   It is a testament to the strength of the Seattle area economy that they   
   continue to grow in prosperity despite the repeated attempts by the   
   state Republicans from outside the region to make things miserable.
