   A major outage hit Berkeley and El Cerrito on Monday morning,   
   cutting power to thousands of homes and businesses, shutting   
   down traffic signals and halting service to the downtown   
   Berkeley BART station, officials said.   
      
   BART released an alert just before 10 a.m. saying that “trains   
   are not stopping at Downtown Berkeley station on the Richmond   
   Line due to a power outage.” AC Transit buses were to shuttle   
   riders to downtown Berkeley from the Ashby and North Berkeley   
   stations.
