|    Amtrak Siemens locomotive tested on SEPT    |
|    08 Mar 16 09:12:02    |
An Amtrak 'motor' operated a test train pulling SEPTA's Bombardier       push-pull coaches on SEPTA lines.              SEPTA is considering purchasing them to replace its AEM-7 fleet.              I can't help but wonder if this is a good idea. When SEPTA first       got push-pull trains, it had to lengthen schedules since the       locomotives didn't accelerate as fast as MU cars, even on long       express runs. High speed is irrelevant, since most SEPTA lines       have low speed limits. The Siemens units pack a lot of horsepower,       which probably would be wasted in SEPTA service.              --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03        * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1)    |
